During my research on this topic I would LOVE to learn more about the history of Tae Kwon Do. I also have a couple of questions about my topic but the most pressing one is “can taking a Tae Kwon Do class change your life style?” By this I mean will taking these classes make somebody that may be in trouble turn their life around. Another question that I would like to answer is “What do the ying yang sign mean”? Also I would like to know “The meaning of Tae Kwon do itself”? By this do they mean a significant meaning or just a word for martial arts and who came up with the name? “What is the significance of the belt system and why is it set up the way it is”? The Koreans were the first to come up with a color belt system to represent the skill level of each student. One other thing that I would love to learn about Tae Kwon do is “How did the Koreans come up with the idea of hiding the secrets of Tae Kwon do in the Kottas”? Kottas are a form of moves that are put into a pattern to learn the different moves of Tae Kwon Do.

Background Information
Tae Kwon Do is one of the many ancient styles of martial arts. There are about eight different styles of martial arts that have contributed to the creation of Tae Kwon Do. It teaches a variety of skills and also the philosophy of the ancient ways of doing things. Back when Japan invaded Korea, the Korean men started having secret meetings to develop martial art strategies and if they were found out they would be killed, to ward off the Japanese. What was different then is that the Japanese had many weapons and many men, while the Koreans only had limited men and no weapons. When the Koreans used this martial art, and took Japan by surprised the word got out and people came from all over to learn this martial art. From personal experience I have learned that by using these skills one can change his or her lifestyle around and make it better.
Why This Topic???
My topic of choice is Tae Kwon Do; I choose this topic because as a student of Tae Kwon Do I have found it to be highly interesting. My instructor is very philosophical when he teaches the history of this martial art. There are many interesting facts about this particular martial art, like the first records are from 50 b.c and that it is taught as a defensive strategy to use against any enemy that attack you. The ancient art of Tae Kwon Do caught on very quickly, the discipline, the honor, and respect were a few of the main points that were taught. From personal experience I have learned a lot about this style of martial arts, that there are different forms of this particular martial art, you have the traditional style and there is the American style but both still teach the basic skills and philosophy of this sport.
